3 men charged after string of gunpoint taxi robberies

By News Staff

Police have charged three Toronto men accused of robbing several taxi drivers at gunpoint over the past few weeks.

Between Aug. 26 and Sept. 15, officers responded to 13 robberies involving taxi drivers from various companies.

It’s alleged the suspects would order taxis using different names and from various locations, mainly in the northwest end of the city.

They would say they were going to a school or a home, and when they got there they would reportedly rob the cab drivers at gunpoint, taking cash, debit and credit cards, identification, cellphones and other items.

Investigators were eventually able to identify the men and arrested them on Monday.

Kervin Bibito, 19, Jermaine Edwards, 21, and Prince Owusu, 20, were charged with 13 counts of robbery with a firearm. Bibito and Owusu also face a charge of unauthorized use of a credit card.

They are all due in court next week.
