Yorkdale Shopping Centre has announced and started to roll out a new Fashion Santa for the 2016 season after using model Paul Mason for the past two years.

Many people took to social media with their comments and concerns about the new Fashion Santa demanding Yorkdale #bringbackfashionsanta.

Mason, known as the real Fashion Santa, told Dina Pugliese on Breakfast Television that he thought he was finished with modeling before he became Fashion Santa.

“Unfortunately my mother passed away about three years ago and that is when this started,” said Mason. “I just didn’t want to get out of bed and shave. Then I just decided, I really like this look maybe I can push it a little bit.”

“I pitched it to Yorkdale and they ran with it,” Mason said.

“Kudos to them for actually running with it and wanting to develop it.”

People could take a selfie photograph with Fashion Santa and all the proceeds went to SickKids Hospital.

Fashion Santa went viral when he ran into Justin Bieber at Yorkdale mall on Dec. 19, 2015 and explained what they were doing with his selfies.

CityNews reached out to Yorkdale about replacing Fashion Santa and they claim to have reached out to Mason.

“He did not express an interest,” a spokesperson for Yorkdale told CityNews.

Yorkdale rolled out the Fashion Santa for the 2016 holiday and said “after two successful years, the centre unveils its Fashion Santa 2016 campaign and the holidays never looked so good.”

“Fashion Santa 2016 brings his own take on style and a whole new edge to the season,” says Yorkdale.com

One person who uses the name Pperez71 on Instagram and has multiple photographs with Mason said that “Paul did not decline, they just took possession of his idea and brand.”

He also added “so sad you took it upon yourselves to “take away” @paulmasonmodel life’s idea and brand. Fashion Santa is his creation Paul Mason is the real Fashion Santa.”

CityNews reached out to Mason for comment but did not hear back from him. He did take to Twitter to say an update was coming.

Yorkdale didn’t release the new Santa’s name but many commented on the Instagram post that his name is Adam Martin.
