Cops Hunt Brazen Bank Robber Who Escaped Park Dragnet

That’s what cops in Oakville are wondering, after a bank robber gave them the proverbial slip on Monday.

The drama began when a man walked into a Bank of Nova Scotia on Iroquois Shore Road around 11:40am and presented a note demanding cash.

He never claimed he had a gun, but bank staff are instructed not to take chances, and the teller turned over an undisclosed amount of cash.

But it looked like the thief wouldn’t make a clean getaway when a witness followed the suspect’s copper coloured Hyundai Santa Fe SUV into Bronte Creek Provincial Park.

Cops rushed in and sealed the forested area off.

But after a massive search that involved an O.P.P. chopper and officers literally beating the bushes, it soon became apparent that the trees weren’t going to give up their secrets and the bandit managed to escape the dragnet.

The four hour manhunt in the park  was called off and busy Burloak Drive, which had been shut down for a time, was re-opened.

Now police are turning to you for a key clue, hoping someone knows who this guy is or saw him as he fled the area.

He’s described as:

  • White,
  • 5′-7″,
  • Medium build,
  • 50-60,
  • Salt and pepper hair,
  • Clean shaven.

He was wearing a dark jacket, blue jeans and a dark coloured T-shirt with white writing on the front.

Halton Police believe the brazen robbery could be connected to a similar heist at another Bank of Nova Scotia branch on Trafalgar Road five days ago.

If you can deposit a clue, cops have some interest in hearing from you.  Call (905) 634-1831 Ext. 2215 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
