Dramatic Arrest

Police have taken a man in his 40s into custody after he was spotted with a sawed-off shotgun in the city’s east end.

Officers descended on the Greenwood Park area, near Greenwood Ave. and Dundas St., before 8am Monday, after receiving reports that the gunman was pointing his weapon at people in the area. Fortunately no shots were fired and no one was hurt in the arrest. The weapon was seized along with some ammunition.

There’s no word on any charges against the man yet. Detectives are trying to determine why he was walking around on the street with a gun in the first place.

Water Main Break

Drivers near Sheppard Ave. and Yonge St. are going to have to find another way to get where they’re going after a water main break in the area. Part of Sheppard, near Doris Ave. was shut Monday after the street flooded. It was expected to be reopened later in the day.

In April, a water pipe burst not far away – at Sheppard and Senlac – which caused a major sinkhole in the road and forced the street to be shut for weeks.

Bus Burns

The back end of a Mississauga Transit bus went up in flames on the westbound 401 near Dixie around 7:45am Monday. Fortunately, all the passengers got off safely. The cause of the fire is unknown but traffic was backed up due to the blaze.
