Mirvishes Celebrate 65 Years Of Marriage

They met on a blind date, but after 65 years of marriage, Ed and Annie Mirvish still have eyes for each other.

On Monday night, the two inseparable lovebirds and Toronto icons celebrated their anniversary with scores of friends.

“For me, the past 65 years have been easy.   Annie, nobody could have a better partner than you,” said an always-honest Ed.

“That doesn’t mean that we don’t have ripples in marriage. Sometimes tsunamis, but for me it gets sweeter every day.”

From politicians to playwrights, the room was full of famous faces eager to share in their love.   Greetings came in from the likes of Tony Bennett, Kiefer Sutherland, and Queen Elizabeth.

The Mirvishes have actually been together 69-and-a-half years. They dated four-and-a-half years after meeting on a blind date.   Once married, they became a very powerful force.

Not only did they create a bargain shopping empire with Honest Ed’s, they also opened restaurants and brought world-class theatre to Toronto, drawing hundreds of thousands of tourists to the city.

They also constantly give back to the community, handing out free turkeys at Christmas and holding a free street party on Ed’s birthday,

“It’s wonderful to see their romance last so long,” said mayor David Miller.   “It’s the same romance Toronto has with the Mirvish family and it’s just a real privilege to be here to celebrate their marriage and all of their accomplishments.”
