Tense Takedown On Streets After Reports Of Woman With A Gun

It sounds like something you’d see in a Hollywood movie.

But it actually took place at 11am Tuesday near Yonge and Grosvenor Sts.

Cops were called to the downtown core after receiving reports a woman was wandering around the area brandishing a gun. After a brief search, they found her and with hearts pounding, they approached her at a full gallop with their weapons unholstered.

Screaming ‘drop it’ and ‘Police! Stop!’ the cops landed on the woman, who seemed confused by their sudden appearance.

As they struggled with her on the ground and handcuffed their reluctant prisoner, police also found the gun, which turned out to be a silver-coloured replica pistol made out of plastic.

The entire drama took just 17 seconds. But it seemed to go on for a lot longer than that.

It turns out the 25-year-old woman was mentally ill, which is why we’re protecting her identity.

It’s the second time in two days that local cops have been forced to draw their guns in public.

On Monday, cops were called out to Dundas and Greenwood after receiving reports a 49-year-old was seen allegedly pointing a .22 calibre rifle at people on the streets. Cops moved in to grab him, and discovered the gun wasn’t loaded – but he was carrying a bag filled with bullets.

He’s facing charges but authorities indicate he’s also mentally unstable.

Cops are awaiting psychiatric tests on both suspects before deciding whether to go ahead with legal proceedings against either of them.
