Creba Accused Gets Bail

And he’s going to get out of jail.

A judge has decided to grant bail to one of the young offenders accused in the Jane Creba shooting on Boxing Day.

The teen, who can’t be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is being let go on $100,000 bond.

He’s one of eight charged in the notorious case that saw the 15-year-old high school student and six others gunned down in a shoot-out between rival gangs on the Yonge St. strip last December 26th. It came in the middle of the afternoon when thousands were out hunting bargains.

His lawyer believes his client’s release was the right move.

“If members of the public had been allowed or had been here and had heard the evidence at this bail hearing then most of the members the public would not be shocked that he was released,” argues Gordon Goldman.

“I don’t think he has come within ten feet of a weapon in his life.”

Two adults and one youth face second-degree murder charges and six counts of attempted murder. Four other adults and the bailed out teen are looking at manslaughter for their alleged roles in the incident.

The news comes on the same day Ontario Conservative leader John Tory met with east end residents to hear about their crime concerns.

One of their biggest – potentially dangerous accused being released before a trial.

“I’m going to press them to start getting much tougher on bail application because there are people out on the streets hours after they are arrested for serious offences. We need to have the justice system where people can no longer see people walking the streets hours after they get arrested for a serious violent crime.”

The teen’s bail comes with some strict conditions. He’s under house arrest, isn’t allowed to leave his premises and can’t have any contact with the other suspects. He’ll return to court on July 27th.
