Celebrate Toronto Street Festival Gets Underway

It’s called the Celebrate Toronto Street Festival, and the plan is pretty straightforward: Celebrate Toronto with the help of an awesome street festival.

The party is just one of many events taking place during a ridiculously busy weekend in the GTA, but with stages set up on Yonge St. at Dundas, St. Clair, Eglinton and Lawrence, it’s going to be a tough act to compete with to say the least.

“Are you ready to party?” asked CityNews’ own Anne Mroczkowski as the event got underway.

Well, judging by the screams and cheers of the thousands packed into Dundas Square for the Friday night festivities, the answer is a definite yes.

“It’s incredibly great to see all of you here tonight, as we kick off this incredible summer festival here in Toronto,” said Deputy Mayor Joe Pantalone.

The 8 th annual edition of the festival features music, theatre and dance and is entirely geared toward families. Oh, and more than 500 artists from all around the world will be on display, so there should be at least a little something for everyone.

“What we showcase at the festival is the diversity of cultures and artists and talents,” said Marilyn Nickle, Marketing Manager with Toronto Special Events.

“It’s all about getting out and just appreciating what we have here in Toronto.”

But the best thing of all? It’s completely and totally free.

The festival runs until Sunday night, and most of the road closures will be in effect until Monday at midnight.
