Shootings Continue To Plague Toronto

Three killings in the past 24 hours have kept police around the GTA busy.

Officers were called to a home on Canoe Cres. near Neilson Rd. and Finch Ave E. after area residents heard shots at about 8:30pm.

Once on the scene investigators found two men in the garage with gunshot wounds to the head. They were later pronounced dead.

“There was a body on the ground. To right of the garage there was a man lying face up and there was a pool of blood,” explained one witness.

Though the names of the victims haven’t been released yet, one man was reportedly in his 30s and the other was in his 50s. It’s unclear what relationship the pair had if any, and police aren’t confirming whether the older man was a transvestite.

The terrifying discovery of the two bodies was reportedly made by the younger victim’s wife.

“(The) homeowner came home and found two people in the garage who had been shot,” said Toronto Police Duty Insp. Randy Franks. “Ambulance and police attended. The scene has been cordoned off. Both victims were transported to Sunnybrook hospital and have been pronounced dead.”

Residents were shocked by what transpired.

“We have two young kids. I never thought it would happen in our neighbourhood,” said one local.

No arrests have been made, but police hinted they don’t think it’s a murder-suicide. They canvassed the neighbourhood late into the night looking for clues and more information.

Ammunition was reportedly found inside the home, but officers wouldn’t say if a gun was found.

Three generations of a family reportedly lived in the home.

Police say they’re looking for two young Asian or Filipino men wearing light-coloured T-shirts in connection with the case.

On Thursday, police in Peel region found a woman’s body in a highrise apartment near Steeles Ave. and Highway 10 shortly before 2am. Investigators have been on the scene since then, but they’re not saying much.

We are unable at this time to disclose any of the results of the cause of death, motive or suspect information at this time,” said Cst. Pete Brendwood. “The homicide bureau is currently on the scene and conducting the investigation.”

Homicide detectives were also on standby after another Wednesday night shooting in the west end. At around 7:20pm, police were called to an apartment above a bar on Weston Rd. near Eglinton Ave. where they found a man with a bullet wound to the head.

There’s no word yet on the victim’s condition. Police believe the suspects may have gotten away in a cab.

According to friends of the victim, he’d been released from jail earlier in the day following a breach of probation arrest.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
