Still No Arrest In Hit And Run Case

A Toronto family is desperately searching for answers, and justice, in the case of a tragic hit and run that took place on July 4 th.

“I got the call from my niece saying nanny has been hit by a car,” recalls a still-rattled Dermot Reid, whose mother, 58-year-old Patricia Reid, was hit by a vehicle at Lakeshore and Second St.

She was rushed to hospital with a cracked skull and bruised brain.   Initially it looked like she might recover, but just days after she was released, her condition worsened. Now she is on life support.

“She is just really bad,” adds the victim’s daughter Nancy McGowan.   “She is in a very critical stage right now.”

Police are looking for someone driving a green mini-van that left the scene. They also have a partial licence plate, AXCD, and are exploring the possibility that the driver may not be aware that he or she hit someone.

But for the family, that is very hard to believe.

“If you ran over a squirrel, you would feel a thump,” Reid adds.   “You would feel a bang. My mother is only 140 pounds. You back into anything, you are going to feel it.”
