11-Year-Old Bike Theft Victim Gets A New Set Of Wheels

Patricia Belisle was devastated when she discovered that a thief had made off with the two-wheeler she earned for performing 30 hours of community service, mostly picking up trash around her Richmond Hill school.

But generous CityNews viewers managed to brighten the little girl’s spirits. After Catherine and Jeff Millen saw Patricia’s story they went out and bought her a brand new bike.

“You had a difficult life lesson so we thought we’d put a positive spin on it for you,” Catherine told Patricia.

The Millens weren’t the only ones who were upset by the girl’s disappointing situation. The CityNews newsroom received hundreds of phone calls and e-mails from upset viewers.

“We’re not rich people but it was something that we could afford to do, and she deserved it,” Catherine MIllen said.

“You hate to see a kid lose out on a summer because somebody took it away from them. It’s not fair,” Jeff Millen added.

The bike was stolen just over a week ago after Patricia’s sister borrowed it, but the new set of wheels came with a new lock, so now she has two.

“I will take care of it and I will let my sister use it as long as she brings both locks,” Patricia said.

Patricia’s mom Sherry Sullivan was also touched by the act of kindness.

“Just grateful to them for giving my daughter a new bike and putting a smile back on her face,” she said.

While police said there’s not much they can do to find the bike stolen from a Richmond Hill strip mall, Patricia said that if she ever did get it back she’d give it to her sister.
