Police Reveal Amount, As Lost Money Returned To Owner

On Monday, CityNews At Six told you about a Good Samaritan who found a large amount of money on the streets of Toronto and gave it all back to police.

It was the right thing to do, of course, but in an era where cash is always tight it may not have been the easiest decision for someone to make.

The lost loot was found in a bank envelope near Royal York and the Lake Shore. But police wouldn’t reveal just how much was recovered, hoping the owner would come to 22 Division, give the correct amount and cop the cash.

That’s just what happened around 10am Thursday, when a man walked in to the police station and reclaimed what was his in the first place. The tally: $2,360 in cash. The owner also described the envelope to police (it bore a TD-Canada Trust logo) and his transaction slip showing he’d withdrawn the amount the day before.

There’s no word on how he lost the money, but it’s clear he was pleased to get it back.

Cops are applauding the still unnamed citizen who did the right thing when temptation came calling – and decided not to call back.
