A Showbiz Legend Finally Decides To Make Her First Stop In Toronto

She’s a legend who’s won countless Grammys, earned 50 gold records, received Oscars for her acting and music, taken home a Tony Award for her Broadway work and is a noted director.

But in all the years Barbra Streisand has been standing in front of an audience, there’s one thing she’s never done – performed live for a Toronto audience.

That will change on October 17th when the entertainer who defines the term ‘diva’ finally makes it to the Big Smoke for a concert at the Air Canada Centre.

The 64-year-old semi-recluse, whose hits range from “People” in 1964 to the 1974 classic “The Way We Were” and the famous Neil Diamond duet “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers” four years later, will also appear in Montreal October 15th.

Her latest album, “Guilty Pleasures” was released last year. She most recently appeared on screen in the 2004 sequel “Meet The Fockers”.

Not only is it a rare appearance for the singer, it’s a surprise she’s making one at all. Despite years of performing, Streisand is known to suffer from stage fright and actually held a heavily hyped farewell tour in 1999.

But she can’t stay out of the spotlight for long and claims this go-round is for a good cause. At least $1 million from the proceeds will go to support former U.S. President Bill Clinton’s Climate Change Initiative, a movement the longtime Democrat supporter claims presents an “urgent need”. Other revenue will head to a variety of separate charities.

It’s her first North American tour since 1994 and she won’t be making it alone. The heavily hunked up pop/opera crossover group Il Divo will also be on the bill.

Tickets for the one night only concert go on sale online Friday and then publicly Monday, August 28th via TicketMaster. And they won’t be cheap. They start at $85 and soar as high as $350 a ducat. You’re limited to just eight tickets.

But if you want to get in on what concert promoters call special ‘limited seats’ it will set you back $550 a piece.

And at that price, you won’t have to bring her flowers anymore.
