Peel Officers To Face Disciplinary Action

Two-dozen Peel Police officers are facing disciplinary action after some inappropriate off-duty behaviour was caught on tape.

The force launched an investigation after two Mississauga men claimed they’d videotaped off-duty officers from 11 Division drinking in a parking lot in August.

The cops won’t face criminal charges, but they will face charges under the Police Services Act, including discreditable conduct, neglect of duty, corrupt practice and deceit.

“The actions of the involved officers on August 28, 2006, are considered serious in nature and have brought discredit to the reputation of the Peel Regional Police. Their actions are unacceptable and inconsistent with the core values of the organization,” the force said in a statement.

“This Police Service does not condone misconduct on the part of any officers, and their conduct has impacted all members of the Peel Regional Police Service.”

Their first court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 22, 2007.
