The Bell Of The Bawl

You know that song “I Heard The Bells on Christmas Day”?

You don’t want to be singing it this year in the town of Bergen, Norway.

The chimes at the Salhus Church began to ring as they do every Christmas Eve. But this time they didn’t stop.

A glitch in the mechanism that controlled the ringers caused the non-stopped tintinnabulation to continue for five straight hours, driving even those in the mellowest of Xmas spirits to distraction.

Neighbours worried their children wouldn’t be able to sleep and for a change it was the priest asking for forgiveness. Arvid Andreas Fosse apologized for the din after the hitch was worked out and the noise mercifully and finally stopped.

The bells were only supposed to go off for about an hour, but the man in the clerical collar still can’t understand why he wasn’t informed sooner. Seems no one bothered to call and complain until the chimes had chimed in for the fifth hour in a row.

Now that Fosse managed to get everything quiet again, townsfolk may want to nominate him for an award. May we suggest the No Bell Prize?
