Movie To Be Made About Disgraced Pop Stars Milli Vanilli

They had a string of hits before being exposed as phonies – but a movie being made about pop duo Milli Vanilli is very real.

The disgraced ‘artists’ Fabrice Morvan and Rob Pilatus, who were stripped of their Best New Artist Grammy award in 1990 when it was revealed that they never sang on their albums, will be the subject of a musical biopic being developed by Universal Pictures, according to the Hollywood trade magazine Variety.

Jeff Nathanson, who’s no stranger to stories about fraud – he wrote the Leonardo DiCaprio vehicle Catch Me If You Can, about a notorious cheque forger – will write and direct the film.

“I’ve always been fascinated by the notion of fakes and frauds, and in this case, you had guys who pulled off the ultimate con, selling 30 million singles and 11 million albums and then becoming the biggest laughing-stocks of pop entertainment,” Variety quoted Nathanson as saying.

Nathanson spoke with Morvan about the project and got his permission to do it – the only surviving member of the group has been trying to make a comeback for years.

Pilatus died of a drug overdose in 1998, but his family also agreed to the project.

The duo’s biggest album was 1989’s Girl You Know It’s True, which spawned hits including the title song, Baby Don’t Forget My Number and Blame It On The Rain.
