Extreme Cold Weather Alert Issued

Torontonians will have to endure another blast of Arctic air before a forecasted warm-up for the work week.

An Extreme Cold Weather Alert was issued by Toronto Hostel Services Sunday afternoon with evening temperatures expected to dip down to -17 degrees Celsius, which will feel more like -26C with the wind chill.

Things should warm up considerably for the start of the work week with highs of 1C expected for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. A little bit of snow is also in the forecast for those days.

The weather alerts are issued to help homeless people find shelter from the frigid conditions. In the event of an Extreme Cold Weather Alert extra shelter beds are made available and street outreach efforts are increased.

If you spot a person living on the streets in need of help in the cold conditions you can call the Street Helpline at 1-866-392-3777.
