Supreme Court Won’t Hear Autism Appeal

The Supreme Court has opted not to hear an appeal from more than two dozen families concerning specialized treatment for children who have autism.

It’s been an up and down ride for the 28 families involved in the fight.

They first won a court ruling in their request to have government finance the expensive behavioural therapy, but that was subsequently overturned by the Ontario Court of Appeal.

They then appealed to the country’s highest court to hear their case, but have now been denied. As is the case in such proceedings, the SCOC didn’t provide a reason for its ruling.

Last month a Senate committee suggested that the country could benefit from a national autism plan, which would assist families forced to pay huge costs to help their youngsters receive proper therapy.
