Paul McCartney Slips On Brit Rich List Amid Costly Divorce

Paul McCartney’s loss is Andrew Lloyd Webber’s gain.

The two wealthy songwriters switched places on the annual list of Britain’s richest musical figures – Webber moving up to second place, the ex-Beatle slipping to third – after what’s been an expensive year for McCartney.

The pop star’s fortune is estimated to be down US$200 million from last year because of the cost of his divorce from Heather Mills. His wealth is now pegged at a still-not-too-shabby $1.4 billion.

Webber sits just above McCartney on the Sunday Times’ annual Rich List at $1.5 billion. The composer had a successful year thanks to the popularity of a revival of The Sound of Music he produced. The show’s star was selected in a reality TV show.

Neither songwriter was close to matching Clive Calder’s affluence, however.

The former boss of the Zomba record label, whose acts included Britney Spears and ‘N Sync when they were at the height of their popularity, sits on a cool $2.6 billion.

The latest list’s other top moneymakers include: theatre producer Cameron Mackintosh, Madonna and her husband filmmaker Guy Ritchie, Elton John, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Tom Jones.
