Paris Hilton’s Jail Term Cut In Half

At first it appeared that poor little rich girl Paris Hilton was bring treated just like any other convicted felon. But now that doesn’t seem to be the case. The hotel heiress is supposed to report to a California jail by June 5th to serve time for  violating the terms of her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case. A judge, fed up with the celebrity’s perceived “I’m above it all” attitude, sentenced the 26-year-old to 45 days behind bars.

But now it’s been revealed that the socialite won’t be spending anywhere near that much time in lock-up. Jail officials have confirmed the celebrity will only be required to stay for 23 days, roughly half her original sentence. The reason? She gets time off for ‘good behaviour’ – including the fact that she showed up for her latest court date, something many believe shouldn’t even be a factor.

Hilton will also get a private room during her stay behind bars. She’ll be left in a special needs housing unit away from other prisoners. The 12-room facility is normally reserved for police officers, public officials, and high profile inmates. But while she’ll be handled carefully, at least one aspect of her pending imprisonment will be the same as the rest of the 2,200 others housed elsewhere in the complex. She’ll be given at least an hour outside her cell every day to take a shower, watch TV, get some outdoor exercise or talk on the phone.

Hilton has apologized for her actions, acknowledging she made a mistake. She was caught operating a vehicle with a lifted license after a drunk driving charge was laid against her. She claims some of her entourage had wrongly informed her it would be OK to get behind the wheel despite the prohibition. But a judge refused to accept the excuse.
