British Men Found Guilty Of Attempted Bombings

Four men who planned a fake bombing to protest Britain ‘s continuing involvement in the war in Iraq were found guilty on Monday. The quartet, Muktar Said Ibrahim, Yassin Omar, Hussain Osman and Ramzi Mohammed, were convicted of conspiracy to murder almost two years after plotting to bomb London ‘s public transport system.

The failed bombing attempt came just two weeks after a co-ordinated suicide attack that killed 52 commuters in London . Six people were accused of attempting to detonate backpacks filled with explosives on three subway trains and a bus in a copy of the July 7, 2005 attacks.

All the devices failed to detonate and the suspects denied the charges, stating the bombs were duds and their actions were a protest against the Iraq war.

The verdicts were delivered after a six-month trial at London ‘s Woolwich Crown Court . The jury is still deliberating on charges against two co-defendants. Sentencing will begin later in the week.
