Greece Isn’t The Only Word At Taste Of The Danforth

“Let’s eat up the street.”

“No thanks, I hate the taste of concrete.”

O.K., it’s an old joke. But at least it’s in good taste – just like the food on display at this weekend’s massive Taste of the Danforth in Greektown. For many, the event is one of the highlights of a hot Toronto summer and it’s one of the last major events of the simmering season.

Last year, more than a million people came to the annual celebration of all things Greek and edible. Just as many are expected this go round. And those who are offering up their wares promise you won’t be disappointed. There’s even a chance to win a trip to Greece itself, where you’ll be able to see how close they came to authentic Hellenic dishes. But that’s not all that’s on the menu. You’ll also be able to sample goodies from Thailand, India and Cuba.

It’s the 14th year for the tasty treat, but it’s not just about stuffing your face – although that’s certainly encouraged. “We have a skating rink in the middle of August,” points out spokesman Howard Lichtman. “We’ll have Olympic skaters performing and every single restaurant has tasting tables from Greek to foods around the world. It’s about food, fun, and family entertainment.”

And it’s about three days long. The Taste of the Danforth runs from Broadview to Jones from Friday to Sunday. And come hungry. You can be sure you won’t leave that way.

Taste Of The Danforth just one of many major road closures this weekend.
