Highway 400 Reopens After GO Bus-Ice Cream Truck-Minivan Collision Creates Traffic Chaos

It was Friday afternoon, and as the last few weekends of summer slip away, many were hoping for an early getaway to cottage country. But they ended up with a huge hassle instead, thanks to yet another rush hour problem on a busy GTA highway. This time the trouble was on the 400 at Langstaff Road.

The OPP say one car rear-ended another, creating a chain reaction crash involving three unlikely vehicles: a minivan, a GO bus and an ice cream truck. It happened just before 4pm in the northbound lanes and the results were predictable. A huge backlog stretching for kilometres began for those trying to make their way to Barrie and beyond. Only one lane was open for about an hour, leaving cars squeezing by and tempers fraying.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene and took three people to hospital, but their injuries aren’t considered serious. Although it looked like the highway would be closed for most of the rush, cops were able to clear the route by 5:30pm and the journey up north resumed.
