Car Hits House, Neighborhood Evacuated Due To Gas Leak

A rude awakening for residents along Sundial Crescent at around 1:30 am on Saturday as police and neighbours pounded on doors.

They were evacuating the neighborhood after a car slammed into the side of a house, shearing off the gas metre and sending the noxious fumes into the air.

It took Enbridge, the local gas company, an hour to cap the leak. No one was hurt but people were concerned about the accident, says neighbor David Sanford.

“My mom yelled downstairs. She heard a huge bang and someone screaming,” says Sanford. “I went running outside – all you could smell was the gas.”

Police say the car went over the lawn and struck the side of the house, it was pretty badly damaged. There’s no word on what exactly caused the accident or whether charges will be laid.

No one was hurt during the incident.
