The end of summer may hold special significance for students and teachers, but police want to make sure that drivers are also aware that with the coming of the school year, comes extra responsibilities behind the wheel.
Police are reminding all motorists to be alert and cautious, particularly in and around school zones. To get their point across they’ve launched a “Back to School” campaign, targeting speeders.
Driver Michael McKay was one of the drivers hit with a fine. “It’s the first day back for kids, and I was just in a little bit of a rush unfortunately,” he said.
Det. Paul Lobsinger wasn’t accepting sob stories from offenders.
“It’s not a legitimate excuse. It’s human nature, and that’s part of the attitude that we need to change. Leave a little early. Think of people other than ourselves,” he said.
