Street Performers Converge In Toronto For Buskerfest

Jugglers, fire eaters, acrobats, singers, mimes and people whose acts are simply beyond definition.

They’re not the kind of people you might run into in the same place on the streets of Toronto. Except, maybe, at Buskerfest.

Street performers from across Canada and around the world will turn Front Street East, between Church and Jarvis in the historic St. Lawrence neighbourhood, into their stage for four days and nights of alternative entertainment including break dancers, stilt walkers, roving magicians and chalk artists.

“It’s a festival celebrating street performers from all over the world,” festival director Mackenzie Muldoon said.

Aussie Al Millar, otherwise known as “the human knot”, will be performing as will Japanese candy sculptor Masaji Candyman and the American Pogo Dudes.

And the show doesn’t stop when the sun goes down. Performers working with fire will dazzle crowds gathered on the street at night over the weekend, including in two gala features. The money from those shows will be donated to Epilepsy Toronto.

There are also a number of events taking place over the weekend designed specifically for kids, including juggling workshops, balloon twisting and a create-your-own tee shirt centre.

Buskerfest kicks off Thursday at noon and wraps up Sunday evening at 8pm.
