Man Charged With Attempted Murder After Assault On Police Officer

A man who had spent two years serving and protecting Peel citizens was allegedly attacked by a Mississauga man Sunday.
The victim, a police officer in uniform, was getting into his cruiser after a routine patrol around 1am near Lakeshore Rd and Helene.
That’s when events took an unexpected turn.
According to police, the officer was allegedly assaulted from behind. The accused allegedly brandished a baseball bat, striking the unsuspecting victim several times.
But he fought back, subduing the suspect until other Peel Region officers arrived.
The officer was taken to hospital for minor bruising and scrapes, treated and released.
Arenije Gavrilovic, 23, has been charged with Attempt Murder.
