A teen found himself facing a handgun in a terrifying home invasion Tuesday night.
The 14-year-old boy was at home with his 19-year-old brother in the Highgate Dr. area in Markham when the doorbell rang. Seeing a man wearing a yellow safety vest outside, the youth opened the door. It’s a decision he no doubt regrets, as the man and anywhere from five to 10 others rushed into the residence. One put a handgun, which may or may not have been loaded, to the youth’s temple.
The other suspects confronted the boy’s older brother and managed to restrain him. Badly outnumbered, both boys were taken upstairs where the suspects demanded money. The boys were then taken to the basement while their attackers ransacked the rest of the home.
The 19-year-old managed to free himself at one point and confronted one of the men. But the others found out, and started kicking him and beating him, possibly with a crowbar.
The younger brother was finally able to get to his cell phone and call 9-1-1, at which point the group fled on foot. Fortunately neither of the brothers received serious injuries.
Now police hope you can help them track down the men involved in the home invasion. They’re described as:
- Possibly of South Asian, Filipino, or Hispanic decent
- Between the ages of 18 and 30
- Ranged in height from 5’8″ to 5’11”
- Varying builds and all spoke English.
One of the suspects was wearing a yellow safety vest and the victims apparently saw at least two handguns between the suspects.
