Southern Ontario To Get Boost From Feds

Southern Ontario will soon get a financial boost from the federal government.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said that a regional development agency would have its headquarters in Kitchener.

He explicitly said he didn’t want the head offices to be located in Toronto, or the GTA.

The agency itself was promised in the federal budget.

Minister of State and Cambridge MP Gary Goodyear will be responsible and will tour the region shortly.

The Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario has a $1 billion budget over five years.

The manufacturing sector in the province has been hard hit in recent years, with more than 200,000 people losing their jobs.
