On the day her son was to turn 15, the mother of a boy gunned down in May made an emotional appeal for his killer to come forward.
“Instead of celebrating [Adrian’s] birthday, we’re mourning his death,” Stephanie Johnston said, surrounded by the families of other murder victims there to show their support.
Her son, Adrian Johnston, was shot in the chest and stomach and left to die in a hydro field near Scarlett Rd. and St. Clair Ave. W.
It was the fourth murder in the area in three weeks and there was speculation Johnston may have been targeted because of the housing complex where he lived. Police are investigating the possibility of fighting between members of that complex and two others, one of which was home to another recent murder victim, Jarvis St. Remy.
At Friday’s press conference, Stephanie Johnston expressed frustration at the lack of witnesses in the case.
“The sick individual who took Adrian from us is still walking the streets,” she noted. “Adrian is not able to do that. There are people who have the piece to the puzzle, but nobody’s coming forward yet.”
She also revealed she has had to move to Niagara Falls because she fears passing her son’s killer on the street.
