Two Charged In City’s 37th Murder Of The Year

Police have charged two men in the city’s 37th murder of the year.

On Sunday, 34-year-old Bishen Golaub of Toronto was killed during a drive-by shooting in Rexdale. It happened in broad daylight, around 1:30pm.

Neighbours dialed 911 to report the sound of gunfire and emergency crews rushed to the scene.

Despite paramedics’ best efforts, Golaub died on the way to hospital. Relatives were shocked to learn of the death of the married father of five, who worked hard to support his family.

“I prayed to God that we wouldn’t be one of the families that has to be on the television crying,” said sister-in-law Elizabeth Shaw. “And now look, here we are. It’s just hard, it’s just sad.”

On Sunday night, authorities charged Christopher Sheriffe, 19, and Awet Asfaha, 24, both of Toronto, with first degree murder.

The two accused had a court appearance on Monday.
