Huge Multi-Million Dollar Drug Operation Started With Street Level Coke Deal In Whitby

A huge drug bust in Durham Region has allegedly netted police a $3 million haul.

The three-month investigation, dubbed Project Isis, led to the arrests of 12 people – and a huge stash of narcotics, cash, vehicles, and even three homes that police claim were being utilized as stash sites.

On Wednesday, officers showed off some of the seized goods and drugs at a press conference.

“We started in Whitby, and it quickly migrated to the city (Toronto) where we identified some very high end distributors,” confirmed Det. Mario Lessard.  “It resulted in 12 people being arrested, and over 90 charges laid.”

Project Isis saw undercover officers allegedly buying illegal drugs at several locations throughout the GTA, starting in Whitby with a street level purchase of cocaine.

“Whitby is not immune to the drug problem, that’s for sure,” noted Durham Regional Police Det. Cyril Gillis.

“My drug team is one of the best drug teams in the GTA and we have a lot of experience following these project level operations and targeting the higher end traffickers, all the way to the importer.  We start with an undercover drug buy and we follow the individuals wherever they go.”

Gillis also noted that the alleged perpetrators were living the high life during their free reign.

In one of the suspect’s homes, police found a receipt for a watch that cost $48,000.

“They had no jobs, they attended the casino, dropped large amounts of money at the casino, they dealt drugs during the day and night and they went out to bars.”
