Murder Suspect To Stand Trial Again For Same Crime

A 23-year-old man acquitted in a 2004 murder will stand trial for the same crime once again.

On Thursday, Warren Abbey’s acquittal was overturned in the court of appeals and a new trial was ordered.

Abbey is charged with first degree murder in the Scarborough shooting death of 19-year-old Simeon Peter, who was gunned down while walking his girlfriend home in January 2004.

Abbey was allegedly associated with the Malvern Crew at the time, a gang embroiled in a turf war.

He was taken into custody Saturday afternoon and he’ll appear in court on Monday.

Abbey has a tattoo of a teardrop under his eye. That symbol can mean that a gang member has killed someone who belongs to a rival gang.

However, a jury in his first trial did not hear about the significance of the tattoo.
