For Torontonians out enjoying a perfect Labour Day long weekend, the experience was bittersweet.
It is, after all, the last holiday of the summer. Come Tuesday, the kids will be back in school and vacationing grown-ups, back to work.
And it’s been a disappointing summer for those who like it hot.
The weather station at Pearson recorded only three days this season with over 30-degree temperatures. We usually get 12 or 13. The city also doubled its average for rain in August, and July was the coldest in 19 years.
All the more reason to take advantage of this weekend’s sunshine and 20-plus-degree weather.
“I’m trying to cram all the things I couldn’t do this summer into one weekend,” revealed cottager Bernice Wong.
She’s not the only one. This is the busiest weekend on our highways, and the OPP has doubled its patrols on the road and are actively surveying the waterways.
Their advice? Stay focused behind the wheel and if you’re out on the water, wear a lifejacket.
