Plane Overshoots Runway At Island Airport

A slippery landing surface at the city’s island airport may have caused a small plane to slide off the runway and become stuck in the mud.

The Toronto Police Marine Unit says the pilot tried to land shortly before 10pm Friday, but was unable to stop before the plane reached the end of the strip.

There were five passengers on board, but no one was injured. It was unclear who owned the plane, but there are reports it did not belong to the airport’s main carrier, Porter Airlines.

The incident delayed flights for about an hour.
