Four Killed In Plane Crash In Algonquin Park

Four people have died after a plane crash in Algonquin Park, about an hour south of North Bay.

The Piper PA-28 left Kingston at 4:30pm Saturday and was en route to Sudbury at the time. When it hadn’t arrived at 10:30pm, four hours behind schedule, relatives in Sudbury called local police, who then contacted the OPP.

At about 3:30am Sunday, search and rescue crews found the wreckage on Devine Lake in a remote area of Algonquin Park. The plane had reportedly hit a tree and broke one of its wings.

A husband and wife, their adult daughter and the daughter’s boyfriend – all from Sudbury – were pronounced dead at the scene. Three of them had been ejected from the plane.

The OPP and the Transport Canada are conducting a joint investigation to determine the cause of the crash.

The victims have been identified as Kevin Houle, his wife Lorraine, their daughter Emily, and Emily’s boyfriend Michael Rollins.
