H1N1 Clinics Confirmed For Toronto

Toronto has confirmed it will be opening six clinics where you can get the H1N1 vaccine.

Though Ottawa still has to approve the shot, it’s expected that the federal government will endorse the vaccine sometime this week.

“It’s about getting it in people’s arms,” outlined Dr. David Butler-Jones, Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer.

“I think we’re in a good position to – very quickly in this country – offer immunization to anybody who wants it.”

The city hopes it will be able to start handing out the doses during the first week of November.

The clinic locations have been confirmed as follows:

Meanwhile, Durham Region will open five locations. Peel and York regions have not released where or when their clinics will be held.

After vaccination, it takes up to two weeks to develop an antibody to the virus.

The version of the shot available here contains a chemical booster known as adjuvant. While the ingredient is common in many vaccines, there’s no safety data that shows what happens when adjuvant is administered to pregnant women.

The vaccine intended for pregnant women will arrive the week of November 7.
