Parents Arrested After Allegedly Trying To Flee With Their Own Children

Police say a Toronto couple will likely face abduction charges for allegedly attempting to fly to Hong Kong after fleeing to B.C. with their children during a court-appointed visit Saturday.

The six-year-old boy and five-year-old girl were reported missing Saturday when they did not return to their foster parents’ home following an unsupervised two-hour visit with their biological parents.

Police found the children with their parents early Sunday in the Vancouver suburb of Richmond.

Toronto police Det. Jim Giczi says the Children’s Aid Society was planning to ask for full custody later this week, putting the supervised and unsupervised visits to an end.

He says the parents were preparing to fly to Hong Kong on Sunday afternoon and if the family had not been located before that, the saga would have ended very differently.

The parents are in custody in B.C. and will likely face two counts of child abduction and the children, who are with the B.C. Children’s Aid Society, will be returned to their foster parents Monday.
