Police say a woman witnessed the murder of her boyfriend in North York Tuesday night.
Kevin Phouthonesy, 24, was gunned down in the parking lot of a townhouse complex near 202 Sentinel Rd., in the Keele and Finch area. Investigators, who are trying to establish a motive for the crime, said the man didn’t live in the area.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, marking the city’s 47th murder of the year.
“We don’t have a particular cause for the shooting right now, but we suspect it was a dispute of some sort that resulted in gunfire,” Toronto Police Duty Insp. Art Little explained.
“His girlfriend is a witness to the whole event and she’s cooperating with police at this time.”
Detectives are searching for three suspects and they admit that Phouthonesy was known to police.
“The male came here with his girlfriend, we are not sure why at this point. Three males came from behind the building, approached our victim and the other person in the car. There was a small argument, and our victim was shot,” explained Det. Sgt., Dan Sheppard.
The area apparently had surveillance cameras up, but the one in the area of the murder had been removed.
This deadly shooting comes just days after another murder on the Danforth that claimed the life of 27-year-old Theodoros Tiku. The murder happened around 8pm Monday near Pape and Danforth Avenues.
