After deliberating close to 10 hours, jurors in the trial of a 23-year-old accused of shooting a TTC driver have found him not guilty of attempted murder.
However, on the lesser charges of aggravated assault and use of a firearm, Malcolm Chalmers was found guilty.
The incident dates back to October 2005 when Jamie Pereira was in his bus near Morningside Avenue and Sewells Road and a bullet meant for someone else hit him in the face and blinded him.
Police finally caught up with Chalmers more than two years later. He was already in custody in Durham on unrelated charges.
Although at least 10 people were involved in the fight that led to the attack, Chalmers was the only one detectives were investigating for attempted murder.
