Police Warn Public About Fake SickKids Foundation Donation Canisters

It’s the season of giving and Toronto Police are warning people to be extra cautious about where they direct their good intentions.
Detectives are in the midst of a fraud investigation involving fake donation canisters placed in shopping malls, storefronts and restaurants.
The fraudulent donation collection cans claim to be affiliated with the SickKids Foundation and list a telephone number – (416) 742-3715 – which has no link to the children’s hospital.
Authorities are asking store and restaurant owners to confirm the legitimacy of donation canisters before they display them and members of the public are being advised to make donations to a charity directly.
