Cavalcade Of Lights Kicks Off

City-dwellers looking to shake off the cold-weather doldrums and fight the yearly tendency to hibernate need look no further.

The 43rd annual Cavalcade of Lights kicked off Saturday night at Nathan Phillips Square with a program of glittering lights, skating, fireworks and live music.

Starting at 7pm, revelers could watch the lighting of the city’s 60-foot Christmas tree and catch performances by Steven Page, Matt Dusk and Keshia Chante.

The concert ended with a fireworks display at 8pm and was followed by a skating party deejayed by Tony Sutherland.

The Fair Trade Market showcased crafts, clothing, accessories and Christmas decorations from around the world for most of the day.

The following road closures were scheduled in the area from about 7:20pm to 8:45pm:

– Bay Street, from Queen Street to Dundas Street
– Hagerman Street, from Elizabeth Street to Bay Street
– Elizabeth Street, from Dundas Street to Hagerman Street
– Albert Street, from Bay Street to James Street
– James Street, from Queen Street to Albert Street
 
The fireworks, free concerts and skating parties will happen every Saturday night in December from 7pm. For more information, click here.
