Allegations of intimidation have reportedly sparked an internal affairs investigation, in which more than 20 Toronto Police officers are being questioned.
The probe follows the arrest of Constable Breton Berthiaume, of the Halton force, who’s facing an impaired driving charge. He was pulled over by two Toronto cops on High Park Avenue early Saturday, the Toronto Sun reports.
When the allegedly impaired officer was taken to 22 Division for a breathalyzer a veteran cop lambasted the arresting officers – reportedly calling them “rats”.
That same veteran officer then trailed their cruiser when they left the station.
No charges have been filed, but the investigation will look into the actions of other senior officers who may or may not have allowed this alleged incident to happen.
“These are serious allegations and if they are proved, than we will respond in a way that makes it absolutely clear that it is entirely unacceptable,” said Mark Pugash, TPS Corporate Communications.
