Sit-In Ends At Queen’s Park, MPPs Apologize To Speaker

A two-day sit-in has ended at Queen’s Park.

The Progressive Conservative MPPs involved stopped their protest and apologized to the Speaker on Wednesday morning.

Bill Murdoch and Randy Hillier have since been expelled from the legislature.

They are opposed to the harmonized sales tax (HST) and were calling for more public hearings on the proposal.

That won’t happened, Premier Dalton McGuinty said. Instead, one day of public hearings has been scheduled for Thursday.

The Liberals introduced the bill, which has the support of the federal Conservatives, on November 16.

The HST will combine the provincial sales tax with the federal goods and services tax for a total 13 per cent levy.
