Health Canada is advising parents to immediately stop using a baby hammock called the Amby Baby Motion Bed due to the risk of suffocation.
Two infants in the United States died and three were injured while inside the device. So far, no incidents have been reported in Canada.
The Amby Baby Motion Bed is a hammock suspended by a single joint on a metal frame. The inclined angle of the sleeping surface raises a child’s risk of becoming entrapped in a corner or side and suffocating, Health Canada says.
The product is only sold online at ambybaby.com and ambybaby.ca and shipped directly to consumers.
“…these products should be disassembled and disposed of in such a way that they cannot be used again. Consumers are also encouraged to notify Health Canada should they find these products for sale,” Health Canada warned.
