When the Breakfast Television crew were setting up in the wee hours of Friday morning for the annual CityNews Christmas tree sale, people had already started to trickle into Yonge-Dundas Square.
It’s all part of Daily Bread Food Bank’s drive to raise one million pounds of food and $1 million to help them get through the winter.
And CityNews viewers came through, taking home 1,000 trees for a minimum donation of $10 each.
“They were very generous this year. So many people offered up more than the $10 that was required. One woman gave us a $500 cheque. A young boy came with $50 and his parents matched it,” revealed Gail Nyberg of Daily Bread.
“We’ve got a way to go. But it’s the next two weeks. That’s when it happens. And I’m very hopeful we can get there.”
