In Photos: 2009 Toronto Music Moments

There’s no shortage of critics with a low opinion of the musical output in 2009 (or for that matter the past decade).
But even if it wasn’t a banner last 12 months for the music industry, there were still plenty of great shows in Toronto this year and I feel fortunate to have been at many of them.
Here are just a few shots from the thousands.

Mar. 12: Mother Murder’s Noel Greaves at The Silver Dollar during Canadian Music Fest.
Mar. 14: Young Rival’s Aron D’Elesio (R) and Noah Fralick at El Mo during CMF.
Mar. 30: Duchess Says singer A-Claude mesmerizes the crowd at the El Mo.
Apr. 5: Japanther heats up a Sunday night at Wrongbar.
May 8: Crystal Antlers frontman Jonny Bell screams into the mic at The Horseshoe.
May 17: The Birthday Massacre headlines Playdead Cult’s Viva Los Muertos! at The Mod Club.
May 26: Grand Analog’s Odario Williams is cooled off by a fan at Wrongbar.

Sep. 22: Emily Haines reaches out during Metric’s Mod Club performance at The Verge Awards.
Sep. 29: Jay Reatard brings his garage rock circus to The Reverb.
Oct. 7: Monotonix singer “Levi Elvis” works the crowd into a panic at The Velvet Underground.
