Citizens who came for the Mayor’s annual New Year’s Levee were disappointed to learn the event had been cancelled.
David Miller’s office put out a news release saying in its place, he would be holding eight Levee-style events across the city early this month.
A couple of high profile former councillors did appear, but most of those who showed up were looking for Mayor Miller.
“This is our fourth or fifth year in a row, so we’re disappointed. This has become a real tradition for us to come down. Particularly because it’s Mayor Miller’s last year, we were hoping to have a chance to say hello,” said regular attendee Michael Freeman.
The show did go on at Queen’s Park and west of the city in Mississauga. Lieutenant-Governor David Onley and his wife, Ruth Ann, hosted a well-attended levee, as did Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion.
