Man Charged In Christmas Card Killing To Plead Guilty

A man charged in a brutal Kitchener murder appeared in court on Monday and his lawyer said he will plead guilty – to a lesser charge.

Hunter Brown, 74, was delivering Christmas cards to his neighbours just before the holidays in 2007.

The card delivery was a yearly habit for the neighbourhood fixture, who loved the personal touch and refused to mail his season’s greetings.

But on December 15, 2007, Brown was approached by a stranger. Police aren’t sure what sparked the attack, but Brown was stabbed to death.

Trevor Lapierre, 24, has been charged with first-degree murder.

On Monday, his lawyer said that Lapierre will plead guilty to second-degree murder on January 18.

Lapierre is also accused of attacking another man just two days later. His victim was clearing off his driveway after a big snow storm at the time, and was able to fend off Lapierre with his shovel.
