New Vehicles May Create Hundreds Of New Jobs At GM’s Oshawa Plant

The production of new vehicles at Oshawa’s General Motors factory could result in up to 1,000 new positions at the plant.

GM reportedly plans to start assembling the Cadillac XTS sedan in Oshawa in February of 2012 and a newer-model Impala a year later, which could generate hundreds of new jobs and an extra shift, according to the Canadian Auto Workers.

The automaker, which employs about 4,600 people at its Oshawa facility, hasn’t yet confirmed these reports.

The new Cadillac XTS will be unveiled at an auto show in Detroit next week.

The Camaro is assembled at the Oshawa facility with one shift on a flexible line. Two shifts make the Impala on a second line.
